Rights of Nature beyond the Looking Glass

Researchers from the University of Amsterdam, led by Rights of Nature expert mr. dr. Laura Burgers, started a one-year interdisciplinary research project entitled Rights of Nature beyond the Looking Glass. Financed by a so-called ‘seed grant’, the aim of this project is to explore the potential and implications of recognizing the rights of nature in Europe with specific attention to a global south lens. 24 September 2025, the team invites all participants of the Confluence of European Water Bodies (from 21 – 24 September 2025 in the Netherlands) for a world café during which we will discuss what the rights of nature mean to us and what its main challenges are. This will result in a co-created document to be shared with all participants and to be used in further research.

The team of Rights of Nature beyond the Looking Glass hopes to expand its research in the coming years and is thrilled to get to meet many representatives of the European Water Bodies!
