Anja Binkofski is a Doctoral Candidate at the German Maritime Museum – Leibniz Institute for Maritime History in Bremerhaven, Germany. She studied Transcultural Studies (M.A.) at the University of Bremen, where she found her passion for Maritime Anthropology. This resulted in her Thesis: “Living with(out) the North Sea – Future Planning on the Halligen in the Age of Uncertainty”, as part of Prof. Dr. Andrea Muehlebach’s project on the Halligen in 2022/23. In March 2024, Anja Binkofski supported the HafenCity University’s research project “Sinking Cities: Cultural Heritage and Transformational Resources” by examining Bremen’s cultural heritage on floods.
In her PhD, she is ethnographically following the new advances of ship recycling in Northern Germany.
