Claus Biegert, author, filmmaker, activist and initiator of Loisachbündnis, was born at Lake Staffelsee. He currently lives on the banks of the Ach.
Since 1973, he has conducted research among indigenous peoples of North America, writing books and creating radio programmes about the threats posed to indigenous peoples by nuclear technologies, uranium mining, nuclear weapons testing and the storage of nuclear waste.
He has collaborated with the artist Rainer Wittenborn and Native American activists on the flooding of the homeland of the James Bay Cree. The exhibitions ‘A River Drowned by Water’ (from 1981) and ‘Amazon of the North’ (from 1995) toured the world.
Claus Biegert initiated the World Uranium Hearing in 1992 and is a cofounder of the Nuclear Free Future Award. His film works include ‘Los Alamos – The Secret and the Sacred’, and ‘On the Meaning of the Whole’, a cinematic portrait of the physicist Hans-Peter Dürr.
