Floris van Hees has a passion for justice, human rights, and environmental protection. He completed a law degree at Maastricht University and subsequently obtained a Master’s in Human Rights and Democratization at the Global Campus of Human Rights. After a career as a lawyer at an international law firm in Amsterdam, he founded his own legal consultancy. Floris sailed the world for eight years in search of solutions for an ecologically sustainable and socially just future. Upon his return, he joined the Doggerland Foundation as a legal advisor. In that role, he aims to secure better protection for the North Sea and its marine protected areas such as the Dogger Bank, while also representing their interests in court. He is a strong proponent of giving natural water bodies legal personhood.
